Chapter 5: Festival of the Blazing Sun
Karl and his brother Nikolai mocked Viktor Vallakovich for being a mamma’s boy at the Blue Water Inn when the son of the Baron arrived to extend Elizabeth an invitation to his mother’s tea and sandwich party. Karl proved to be a loudmouth and a bully.
Later that night, at his mother’s dinner with Elizabeth and her friends, Karl was very annoyed that he couldn’t find his dinner jacket. He didn’t end up going to dinner and instead went out drinking with his brother.
Karl and Nikolai, like their mother, elected to skip the parade, though they went to the Feast of St. Andrel at her insistence. When Strahd arrived, the vampire and his minions avoided the Wachter’s entirely.
After the baron’s death, Karl’s mother was promoted to Burgomaster by Strahd himself. Karl was named the new Sheriff by his mother.
Karl and his brother are known to be local troublemakers and ruffians with a love for wine and mischief. He isn’t home during the day, because he hates attending to his mother and listening to her prattle on. He spends a lot of time drinking at the Blue Water Inn with his brother Nikolai, or wandering around town, cat-calling the pretty girls.
He is the more charismatic between he and his brother, and he tends to do most of the talking.
He feels completely in over his head in his new position as Sheriff of Vallaki, but he totally does like the power it comes with.
